We specialise in custom made road bike holidays. This tour takes you on a training holiday along the best coastal roads in the Western capes, and we ride all the main passes in and around the Cape peninsula and into the Garden Route.

Extra Services

- Bike hire on request, from R900 per week

- Bike repair and parts are charged extra, small repairs are fixed by our tour leader as part of our service

- VCO2 max fitness tests and training plans can be done through our partners at the Sports Science Institute in Stellenbosch

- If you would like to extend your holiday to do a safari, or just stay longer in Africa we can arrange this for you

Day 1: Cape Town monday 17th November 2008

• Stay in Cape Town

• Pick-up at your accommodation in Cape Town. After building the bikes we do a coastal ride along the Cape coast – along camps Bay, Twelve Apostles and the famous Chapmans Peak. We visit a wine farm in Constantia in the afternoon.

Day 2: Hills of Vissershoek/Durbanville

• Stay in Cape Town

 

• This day of cycling takes us out to the winelands of Durbanville, an array of wheat fields and vines. We cycle past the wine estate "Durbanville Hills", maybe we stop for a wine tasting here later, and at "Hillcrest" olive farm, but only after our cycling!. We head out towards Philadelphia, on route we see an array of wheat fields, with sheep and livestock farms. We stop for an energy bar and refreshment before heading back towards our last tough climb of Vissershok.

Day 3: Rawsonville

• Stay in Rawsonville - The wide open spaces on our ride today

 

• After checking out of your hotel we take the N2 towards Caledon over "Sir Lowry's Pass" to our starting point of "Botriver". Our ride sretches through the most majestic mountain secnery and past "Theewaterkloofs Dam" to Villersdorp. Here we stop for a farm stall lunch, ond on towards the wine regions of "Aan de Doorns" and "Rawsonville", being part of the "Route 62" wine route of the Cape. An area with 18 or more wine farms admist the "Slanghoekberge".

• After a cool evening swim we dine in our hotel under the unforgettable African stary night.

Day 4: Old stone edged pass

• Stay in Rawsonville – Thomas Bain built 12 passes in South Africa

 

• A 300 year old track over the mountains and built as a pass road later by Thomas Bain with 200 convicts is our conquest today being also the longest pass in the country. Mostly the original road, where no trucks are allowed we head up the escalating series of corners, and over the summit down a great downhill to Wellington. After a flat road to Gouda and Tulbagh we end our days tour. If we are lucky we still make the champagne tasting and tour at "Twee Yong Gesellen", the 2nd oldest wine estate in the country

Day 5: Tulbagh

• Stay in Tulbagh – At Montpellier wine estate

 

• A day of three passes, we cross Mitchell's pass and enter the Ceres Valley admist the smell of fruit, leaving the city we ride up an almost never ending Theronskloof Pass where we see the fruit trucks fight to get over the hills. With a great descent from over 1000meters we then cut up a gravel track in our tour bus to 1500m and can ride the pass down on the other mountain side heading back to Ceres.

Day 6: Franschhoek

• Stay in Franschhoek – The Gourmet capital of the Western cape

 

• After a hard days riding yesterday we head for Franschhoek. Our ride today is a short ride from Stellenbosch over Helshoogte pass to Franschhoek. In the afternoon we have time to do some sightseeing and relaxing in the town. We are treated to a recovery leg massage from the girls from Stellenbosch Sports Science institute, from Stellenbosch university.

Day 7: Stanford

• Stay in Stanford – The most scenic pass in the country – 7.5 km climbing.

 

• After admiring the Franschhoek pass the day before, we now can ride on one of the most beautiful wineland routes past the Theewaterskloof Dam to Elgin, Grabouw. Who will be king of the mountain today?.

Day 8: Arniston

• Stay in Arniston – we head back along the Garden Route from Stanford to Arniston with great tailwind, 90km bliss

 

• Today we ride from our hotel towards the coast, ending up in a fishing village.

- An evening braai, hopefully we get some good fish to grill

 

 

 

Day 9: Gordons Bay Coast

• Stay along the Gordons Bay coast – back along the coast to False Bay from Hermanus

 

• Staying on the coast and escaping the wind we ride from Hermanus to Gordons Bay, this is a favoutite route for many professional riders who visit South Africa. For the strong we can also ride up to Steenbras Dam to get an amazing view of False bay, and over to the back of Table Mountain

Day 10: Back to the mother city Cape Town

• Depart toady – Fynbos and Cape Point

 

• Today we ride the coast inside False Bay, from Kalk Bay to Cape Point, and if the legs are still up to it we ride up and down Red Hill back to Simons Town. In the afternoon we pack the bikes and relax at the Waterfront. Farewell to the Cape, and we hope to welcome you back again.
